Agneepath: Army released notification, click here for registration details and eligibility

As protests continue across the country against the Agneepath scheme, the Indian Army on Monday issued a fresh notification regarding the Agniveer Recruitment Rally, announcing that registration for the same would begin from July.

Army in its notification said that online registration for the force’s recruitment can be done at “” and is mandatory for all job aspirants under the new model.

The Army stated that ‘Agniveer’ would form a separate rank in the Indian Army, which would be distinct from any other existing rank and that the release of ‘Agniveer’ on their own request before fulfilling the conditions of engagement is not permitted. The army said that ‘Agnivar’ will have no right to be elected after the completion of the four-year term.

Under the Official Secrets Act, 1923 ‘Agnivar’ shall be barred from disclosing classified information received to any unauthorized person or source during the period of four years of service.

“The personnel enrolled through the Agniveer Scheme shall undergo periodic medical examination and physical/written/field tests as governed by the orders issued. The performance so demonstrated shall be considered for subsequent offer for enrollment in the regular cadre Said the army.

It said that based on the organizational requirements and promulgated policies, the ‘Agnivar’ after completing the period of their engagement in each batch would be provided an opportunity to apply for enrollment in the regular cadre.

It is mandatory for the applicants to have passed class 10th with 45% marks in aggregate and 33% in each subject. For technical cadre of ‘Agnivar’ including aviation wing, candidates will have to pass class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English with 50 per cent in aggregate and 40 per cent in each subject.

For those applying for the posts of Clerk or Storekeeper (Technical), class 12 in any stream is required with 60 percent marks in aggregate and 50 percent marks in each subject.

For this cadre, 50% marks in English and Mathematics/Accounts/Book-keeping are mandatory.

Under the Tradesmen heading, the Army has kept two categories for ‘Agniveer’ – one for 10th passers and the other for 8th passers.

The notification states that there is no condition of aggregate marks in both the categories but candidates must have 33 per cent marks in each subject.

As per the notification, bonus marks of 20 will be given to certain categories of applicants in the Common Entrance Test such as Son of a Soldier, Son of Ex-Serviceman, Son of War Widow, Son of Widow of Ex-Serviceman.

Agneepath has an age limit of 17 and a half years to 21 years for only four years, of which 25 per cent is to be retained for 15 more years. The government has increased the upper age limit for recruitment to 23 years in 2022.

‘Agnivar’ will be eligible for 30 days leave in a year as against 90 days for those in regular service. Medical leave will be granted on the basis of medical advice

What is Agneepath Scheme?

In June 2022, the Center introduced Agnipath Scheme For the recruitment of soldiers below the rank of commissioned officers in the three services of the Armed Forces.

Soldiers recruited under this scheme will be known as Agniveers, who will serve in the Army for 4 years, which includes six months of training followed by 3.5 years of deployment. During the tenure, they will be entitled to honors and awards as per the extant guidelines governing the subject of the Indian Army.

After retirement, they can apply to remain in the Army and 25% of the Agniveers will be selected for the permanent cadre.

Initially, it was decided that candidates in the age group of 17 and a half years to 21 years would be eligible for recruitment under the scheme. However, following massive protests across the country, the Defense Ministry said that “the upper age limit for the recruitment process for the Agneepath scheme for 2022 has been raised to 23 years”.

Agneepath Recruitment Dates:

Indian Army: From July 1, notification regarding the same will be issued by various recruiting units. Recruitment rallies will be held in August, September and October

The first batch of 25,000 personnel will be involved in the training in the first and second week of December. The second batch of recruitment will be included in February.

Indian Navy and Air Force: Naval Headquarters will issue comprehensive guidelines for recruitment by June 25. The first batch will join in November. Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force will start the registration process under the Agneepath scheme from June 24.
