“If England Got Ben Stokes, India’s Got…”: Sanjay Manjrekar Calls This Star The X-Factor Vs England cricket news

India will take on England in the all-important rescheduled fifth Test in Birmingham from July 1. The competition will decide the outcome of the series which was halted last year due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the Indian camp. The Indian cricket team leads the series 2-1 and even a draw would be enough for them to register only their fourth Test series win in England. Prior to this, India had won three Test series in the country in 1971, 1986 and 2007. This time the responsibility of registering another historic series win will be the responsibility of the team led by Rohit Sharma.

In an exclusive interview to NDTV, ahead of the India-England Test, the former player of the Indian cricket team Sanjay Manjrekar Considered the player who could be the ‘X-factor’ for India against England.

,Rishabh Pant, I know Rohit Sharma is at the top, there is Virat Kohli, and other great batsmen. There is defiance from Pujara, some good bowling in Shami and Bumrah. They will be a game changer with the ball. But in his very short Test career, Rishabh Pant has seen three great Test innings and in different situations, different opponents. so you’re like Ben Stokes, If you have to look at one player from India, you have almost won the game of India even South Africa, with the 100 he got, Pant is that man. If England gets Ben Stokes, India gets Rishabh Pant.”

The veteran of 37 Tests and 74 ODIs is confident that Pant can make a difference in red-ball cricket despite a weak pitch in the T20 format.

“Yes, because the formats are different. And so far, we have seen that Rishabh Pant has been a formidable Test player. While he has been performing all exceptionally well at the Test level, his white-ball batting hasn’t been good enough there. So there is almost a disconnect between his performance in white-ball cricket versus red-ball cricket,” Manjrekar said.

“This is a guy who makes an impact on playing Test cricket, because he goes about things in a very different way. He’s not motivated to start hitting straight away. So there will be occasions where he’s playing. or 20 dot balls, and then hits three sixes. Depending on the situation, the bowler at the opposite end. So I think the Test format allows Rishabh Pant to be a little more imaginative, not push him, he can take his time and can decide when to hit him and at what moment to do so. So at the moment, it seems that the Test format provides the kind of setting that he enjoys. Whatever in the white ball format Happens, I don’t think there is any impact on his performance at Test level. We have seen it in the last two-three years.”
