Sunrisers Hyderabad fast bowler Umran Malik The current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has impressed the cricketing world with its pace. Umran has clocked a top speed of over 150 kmph on a frequent basis and once, even crossed the 157 kmph hurdle. Speaking ahead of SRH’s game against Kolkata Knight Riders, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar said that he wants the youngster to break his own record of bowling the fastest ball (161.3 kmph), adding that Umran needs to stay away from injuries
“I want him to have a long career. A few days ago, someone was congratulating me because it’s been 20 years since I bowled the fastest ball but nobody broke the record. But I said, ‘Should be there. Who can break this record. Akhtar said during a conversation on Sportskeeda,
Akhtar, the first player in history to break the 100-mile barrier, also wants Umran to play for India, adding that the pacer is on the world stage.
“I want to see him on the world stage because he is there. At present, there are not many people who can cross the 150 kmph mark. We have seen Umar bowling consistently at that pace. Want Umar to have that 100. – He has the mph mark on his mind. I’ll be happy if he enters the 100 mph club. But he has to stay away from injuries that stalled his career might.”
During the game against KKR, Umran returned figures of three for 33, taking his 18 wickets in the current season.
However, it was not enough as KKR registered a 54-run win.
